Steyning Grammar is a vibrant, successful and in many ways unique school, and it is a privilege being its Headteacher. I am proud to be leading a school that has established such outstanding relationships between teachers, students, parents and carers, and our wider community; we work together as the ‘Steyning Family’ to ensure that the highest expectations we have of each student can be met.
Our excellent results at GCSE and A-Level affirm the dedication and hard work of our students and staff, and the support of our parents and carers; this success puts our students in prime positions in an increasingly competitive world. We know, however, that learning is about more than this; we are determined to support our students in developing the skills they need to be successful adults and to fulfil their true potential. This runs through our veins at Steyning Grammar School – we call it ‘grit’ and ‘resilience’; the development of this in school, alongside a curiosity and zest for learning, and the embedding of growth mindsets, ensures our students can flourish, progressing confidently to the next stages of their academic, working or personal journeys.
As Headteacher my determination is that all our students should achieve their full potential; I believe passionately in equality of opportunity so that every student should be ‘the best they can be’; they should be happy and secure in their school environment, should achieve the best they possibly can in academic progress and exams, and they should develop as widely as possible, as confident, independent learners, and as responsible and caring young adults. Everything at Steyning Grammar School is about preparing our students for their lifelong-learning journey, unlocking and nurturing their individual talents. We are committed to offering the highest quality education to young people from Steyning, and its surrounding areas; our former students are proud of their school and the opportunities this learning has given them, and rightly so. First rate learning has taken place at our school for centuries; we have a great history, built on integrity, excellence and achievement - with the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Steyning Grammar School in 2014 an exciting milestone for us. Our core values of kindness, care and acceptance are as valid today as ever, and we remain forward looking, to prepare our students for their futures, as dynamic and engaged 21st century citizens.
We are a proud and unique school – combining all the benefits of an 11-18 comprehensive school with our Boarding provision (rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted) and guiding Church of England ethos (also rated 'Outstanding'). The most recent inspection of the main school took place in March 2017 and we continued to be rated as a ‘Good school with Outstanding features’; the fact they judged our behaviour and safety as 'Outstanding' underlines the commitment to our Steyning Grammar School values.
I always look forward to meeting as many of our current parents and carers and thank you for your ongoing support. If you are a prospective student, parent or carer, we look forward to welcoming you to our school to meet our students and staff.
