Mrs N Nicol (Co-Headteacher)
I read English Literature and Drama at Roehampton University, London before completing my PGCE at Sussex University. I started teaching at Worthing High School in 1999 and then took up the post of Head of English and Drama at Peacehaven Community School where I stayed for 10 years. I joined Steyning Grammar School in 2012 as an Assistant Headteacher leading on CPD. I was promoted to Deputy Headteacher Students in 2015 and I am now Co-Headteacher. I completed my Masters degree in Education in 2012 with the University of Sussex.
I read Geography at Queen's University Belfast and then undertook my Teacher Training at Liverpool Hope University. I completed my first teaching year in 2008 in Liverpool and then moved to Surrey where I became Head of Faculty for Humanities. I then moved to Harris Academy Bermondsey in 2014 and became Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Behaviour and Safeguarding. I moved to Steyning Grammar School in January 2018 as Deputy Headteacher. I have been Co-Headteacher at Steyning Grammar School since September 2019.
Mrs S Carroll (Deputy Headteacher)
I read History at Leicester University. I trained to be a teacher in Lancaster and got my first job in the The Blue School, Wells; I was Head of History there and a Head of Year. I then relocated to East Sussex, where I taught at Uckfield Community College and became an Associate member of the Leadership Team. I moved to Steyning Grammar School in 2013 as an Assistant Headteacher and in September 2019 I started my role as Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for the KS3 sites.
Mr A Wood (Deputy Headteacher)
I read Maths and Physics at Exeter University and then went on to train to be a teacher at Bath University. I started teaching Maths and Science in Emmbrook School, Wokingham, Berkshire. Three years later I began as Head of Physics at Imberhorne School in East Grinstead where I also became involved in staff training. After six years I moved to Steyning Grammar School as Head of Science. In 2016 I was promoted to Assistant Headteacher and went on to become a Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for KS4 and Curriculum in September 2019.
Mr T Leighton (Deputy Headteacher)
I studied French and Spanish at Aston University and L'Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Lille, France. Having taught English at St George's College in Buenos Aires, I returned to the UK to take up a boarding post at Old Swinford Hospital School where I spent three years. I then moved on to become a Housemaster at Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham. I joined Steyning Grammar School in April 2014 as Deputy Director of Boarding, taking over as Director of Boarding two years later. Since September 2019, I have been Deputy Headteacher and am currently Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Mrs C Monahan (Assistant Headteacher)
I studied Biochemistry at Somerville College, University of Oxford. After finishing my Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford, I completed a PGCE in Science at the Institute of Education in London. In 2004 I took up a post teaching Science at John Kelly Girls' Technology College in Brent, London. Here I took on responsibility for Assessment within Science and was Head of Year. In 2008, I moved to Brighton and joined Steyning Grammar School as Head of Chemistry. I was promoted to Head of Science in 2016 and in September 2019 I joined the Leadership Team when I was promoted to Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning.
Mr L Talbot ( Assistant Headteacher)
I read History at Manchester University. In 2001 I started at the Angmering School to work as a Learning Support Assistant supporting disabled students for two years before training to be a teacher. I started teaching Physical Education at Kings Manor (now Shoreham Academy) and stayed for four years before taking a year out to work in New Zealand and Australia. In 2009 I joined Steyning Grammar School as Key Stage 4 manager for PE, taking over as Head of Faculty in 2011. I have been a member of the Leadership team as an Associate for three years before moving up into an Assistant Headteacher role in 2019.
Ms S Quaglieri ( Associate Assistant Headteacher and SENCo)
I studied Modern Languages at Bristol University and then spent three years working in NHS finance before deciding to train to be a teacher. I did my PGCE at Westminster College, Oxford and my first post was at Wood Green School, Witney. I then moved to Cheshunt School as Head of German and subsequently to Saffron Walden County High School as Coordinator for MFL. My next post was as Head of MFL at The John Fisher School in Purley. After starting a family, I moved to Sussex and held various roles in the MFL department of Oakmeeds Community College, before training as SENCo in 2010. I joined Steyning Grammar School as SENCo in 2016 and two years later became an Associate member of the Leadership Team.
