Steyning Grammar School are once again delighted that our students have exceeded national benchmarks and continued to make positive progress during a time of huge curriculum reform and assessment change. We thank all staff for their academic and pastoral support of the class of 2018.
The following students need to be congratulated for their academic excellence: Matthew Sanders (13 grades at 7-9), Ashley Walters (12 grades at 7-9), Lucy Hirst (12 grades at 7-9) and Amber Wright (12 grades at 7-9). Shaun Coughlan deserves a special mention for achieving a full suite of 9s in his exams.
Students who made notable progress since the start of their SGS journey include Donhin Qiu, Sabrina Ahmed, Phoebe Coster, Destiny Kirby and Isaac Polson.
Steyning continues to offer a huge breadth of curriculum choices, bucking national trends of narrowing the curriculum offer. Consequently, our students continue to flourish in Biology, Chemistry and Physics with 99% of students achieving a level 4 or above and they have similarly excelled in Drama with nearly 90% achieving grades 4-9.
Headteacher, Mr Wergan, commented, “Congratulations to all students. We are proud of each and every pupil and their exam successes as well as their progress in terms of developing their learning character; we wish them every success in the next stage of their lifelong learning journeys.”
Mrs Nicol, Deputy Headteacher, was thrilled, “The exam results are just one measure of our students’ success and represent their grit and determination to flourish. The joy on the faces of so many, when they realise that they can move onto their chosen progression pathways, makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
