×Steyning Grammar School is a unique, successful and dynamic learning community. Our ‘Journey to Excellence’ is built on traditions of excellence and highest expectations, combined with a commitment to innovation and new thinking - to support our students in being the best they can be in preparation for their exciting futures.
Ofsted (March 2017) continued to rate the school Good with Outstanding features, highlighting the following strengths:
We are a non-selective, Church of England Voluntary Controlled comprehensive school – our SIAMS (Church of England) Inspection rated us ‘Outstanding’ in June 2016.
We have a tradition of excellence, care and support. The ‘Steyning Family’ is a strong harmonious community – in 2014 we celebrated the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Steyning Grammar School
We are a large school, spread over three campuses, with 2220 students across one of the largest catchment areas in Sussex - this size enables us to offer the widest opportunities and a curriculum of breadth and depth that is core to our success. We offer nearly 30 subjects at GCSE and over 30 at A-Level.
We are a day and residential school: Steyning Grammar School has one of the most successful boarding provisions in the UK, the only state boarding facility in Sussex. Our Boarding School is rated Outstanding by Ofsted (November 2018) under the new framework; Ofsted had no recommendations to make.
Our listed-building Church Street campus in Steyning and our Rock Road campus in Storrington, both for Years 7 and 8 offer the ideal nurturing transition between KS2 and KS4, a smaller stepping stone to the larger Shooting Field site for Years 9-13. We have two different entry points for students into our school, at Year 7 and Year 12.
We offer a 3 year Key Stage 4.
Our Sixth Form, rated Outstanding’ by Ofsted, is one of the largest ‘in a school’ in the South of England – and a highly successful A Level specialist provider, with a 99% overall pass rate for A level students (100% pass rate in 30 subjects). Over 70% of Sixth Formers go on to University, and another 10% to Foundation Colleges as a step towards University.
We are determined to remain innovative and forward looking – in our teaching, professional development, distributive leadership and curriculum design. We are delighted to have been awarded Teaching Schools during the 2017 academic year. We have high ambitions – to be one of the best schools in the country – our School Development Plan below reflects this.
Our vision is ‘For every person to be the best they can be’. To achieve this vision we make four ongoing mission statements about the work of the school – our commitments to home, students and staff. We support these with development plan priorities that focus our work for the year.
Every Person The Best They Can Be.
